Well folks, you can now buy your very own Afternoon Blouse pattern right here. Just in time for some Easter Weekend sewing!
I've decided that I'm not going to be running a sew-a-long per say, mostly because it's such an easy pattern, but I will be writing a number of posts about the blouse on things like stabilising seams (especially useful if you plan to make the blouse using silks, rayons or other 'slinky' fabrics), pattern hacks (a sleeveless version anyone? Or how about adding waist-ties for a bit more definition if you want to wear it untucked?) as well as a tutorial on printing and assembling your Afternoon Blouse Pattern as I've chosen to lay my pattern out a bit differently to other PDF patterns, which hopefully means it's easier to put together and you'll have less paper wastage!
So, ummmm, I guess all there is to do now is go get your own copy of the blouse, find that amazing vintage button that for some reason you only have one of, set aside an afternoon and get sewing, huh?
If you make an Afternoon Blouse, well, I'd REALLY like to see them, so please let me know if you've blogged about one, or feel free to email me a picture :)
Yay!

Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments last week when I announced that I had been working on my first pattern. It's really rather a nerve racking thing to have worked to hard and spent so much time on something and not know how people are going to react. I said it in my last post and I'll say it again - your comments have been so supportive and really very humbling. THANK YOU!

I was just off to bed, when I checked Instagram & saw this. So now I have to buy the pattern before going to sleep :D
ReplyDeleteYAY! Thanks Jennie! Hope you enjoy making it :)
DeleteI'm sure I will!
DeleteI printed the pattern this morning & stuck it together during my sons first nap, then during his afternoon nap I cut it out in fabric. Hoping to get some sewing time this weekend :)
Dang! That's cute! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica :)
DeleteThis is a super cute blouse, which I am thinking about buying, but I was just wanting to check - one button to keep it closed? or is it just for decoration? If its only got one button holding it together would that make it odd to wear not tucked in? Congratulations on making a multisized pattern though :-) trying to think of what kind of fabric I'd want it in :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth! It is a decorative button and then the rest of the neckline is either secured around the neckline seam (where the facing & bodice join) with hand stitches for an 'invisible' finish, or you can machine top stitch it down. It's totally up to you. If you machined it, you could also make a feature out of the stitches :)
DeleteThanks so much for the lovely comment too!!
Downloaded, printed and ready to stick together!! Added to this weekend's plans!!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!! Oooh, I can't wait to see it! Exciting :) And thanks so much for the support :)
DeleteLovely! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteBought!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteYay, yay, YAY! Can't wait to see your version :)

ReplyDeleteLove 'work-printing' !! No, Thank YOU for getting a copy! Can't wait to see it being paraded about during MMMay14.
DeleteCute blouse! Congratulations on such a lovely pattern release! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much :)
DeleteJust found your blog via Handmade Jane's post about her Afternoon blouse. I love this, it's so pretty.
ReplyDelete*blush* Thank you so much!!
DeleteI love kimono sleeves. This blouse is so elegant, what a lovely pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love me some kimono sleeves as well - thanks so much for the lovely comment :)
DeleteJust had to say again how wonderful your pattern is! I have patterns (and fabric) coming out of my ears, yet I'm feeling a very strong urge to buy yours!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marie! Ha - I totally know what you mean about fabric and patterns coming out of ears - me too!!
DeleteI like this blouse quite a bit. Do you know if there will be a photo gallery/Flikr pool so we can see everyone's versions? I always find it inspiring to see how others imagine their versions.
ReplyDeleteHello! Well, first off, thank you! Secondly, I plan to have a pinterest board where I'll be pinning all the blouses I can find, because I totally agree with you about how nice it is to see different variations and ways that a pattern can be made up.
DeleteI'll also be featuring some on my blog when they start appearing. I had thought about a flickr group, but I've not quite got there yet. Maybe in a few weeks?
Could you be any cuter?! These are all so sweet on you. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteNawww, thanks Sonja!
DeleteLovely pattern! One question, do you have finished measurements listed somewhere? I'd be making the size 20 and I'm a bit larger than the stated measurements. Normally I'd just measure the flat pattern but the kimono sleeves are throwing me off. I love the way you tiled the pattern. It is much easier to tape them together. They went together perfectly. This pattern will be great for all of my single vintage buttons.
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy - I don't have final garment measurements, but this is something I've had one or two people ask about, so I will certainly have to add them. As I'm doing pretty much everything myself, I'll need to go and do them all manually, so I might need a few days.
DeleteIn the interim, I would measure the bust size just below the sleeve (the where it will sit in the armpit) and go from there. The bust has just enough ease to not be 'fitted' while also not being 'loose' if you know what I mean? If you wanted to gage how much you might need to add, the bust goes up in 3inch increments, so you could add what you needed that way, and keep the shape by tracing from a previous size. I don't even know if that makes sense - ha!
Do, let me know how you get on though. It's really great having this kind of feedback :)
And I'm so glad you like how I laid out the pattern PDF - easier to use was what I was going for, so I'm glad it's working!
Oops sorry for the double post. My reply disappeared when I logged in so I thought it was done. Ok that's where I tentatively measured it so I think there's actually enough ease without me adding any additional. I've been having a sewing slump and I think this is just the pattern to bring me out of it.
DeleteLovely blouse pattern! This will be the perfect pattern for all of my single vintage buttons. The way you tiled the patterns made it piece together much faster than other pdf patterns.
ReplyDeleteOne question, do you have finished measurements somewhere or how much ease in it? I'm a bit larger than the measurements and I'm trying to figure out how much I need to add, if any. Normally I'd just measure the flat pattern but the kimono sleeves are throwing me off. Thanks so much!
Oooh, answered above Cindy - hope that helps!
DeleteWhat a cute blouse and simply adorable pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Josie!
DeleteSaw Jane's post about her version of your Afternoon Blouse and I had to get my hands on the pattern post haste. Guess I know how my Sunday afternoon will be spent. I do have a question regarding the fabric. Do you think Liberty Lawn would work well? I have a length that fits the fabric requirements and with summer coming to the US, I need some light weight tops.
ReplyDeleteLawn would be fabulous!! It will give you a lovely drape, but will also keep it's structure. Can't wait to see it made up, sounds absolutely wonderful!
DeleteVERY, VERY CUTE! I've seen Jane's version of your blouse in addition to the two you posted above, and it's fantastic! Congrats on this new adventure!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I've been having such lovely feedback on the blouse pattern, now I'm itching to see it in the wild :)
DeleteSuch a cute pattern! I have such a queue of blouse patterns going and I swore off buying any more, but I just don't have anything like this, yet...
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling! It's a super quick make if you do feel like breaking your oath!! *Wink wink*
DeleteLovely top-- can't wait to try it! But OOOH-- did you make the sailor pants? And if so, what pattern is that?
ReplyDeleteThanks Poppy! Unfortunately I didn't make the pants - I've had them for about 5 years now! They are Tara Starlet :)
DeleteSo cute, Im looking for this sort of blouse so I'm happy to buy it... NOW !!!!
ReplyDeletePerhaps I will be the first french woman wearing it !!!
Yay! You French ladies are so stylish - I'd be honoured!!I
DeleteGourgeous! I want it. Greetings from Belgium.
ReplyDeleteYay and Greetings from New Zealand! Let me know if you make it, I'd love to see it swanning around Belgium :)
DeleteI love this and I think it would look equally good with my 1930s outfits. Can't wait to make it!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree - I think the 'square' neckline looks like it would really well with a 20's/30's outfit. Do let me know if you make one, I'd love to share it :)
DeleteBit behind on my blog reading since I got back but just wanted to stop by & say thanks (again!) & congrats (again!), it seems like the pattern is doing really well, yay!! So many cute versions popping up... once my sewing back log has eased up a bit I'm ON it :)
ReplyDeleteWhat pattern are the wide leg trousers in these pictures. I love them!
