Merry Christmas!

Friday, December 23, 2011
I am officially on holiday today for two whole weeks! I plan to catch up on sleep, catch up on some much needed sewing and see people I haven't seen in a long time. And maybe blog a wee bit :)

I know I've not blogged a lot during the second half of this year, but unfortunately some thing has to give and in my case it was this little bit of internet land. To make up for it, here is a picture of Monty I took on my phone sleeping on some tinsel...

Not too shabby...

Thursday, November 24, 2011
First of all, thanks so much for your comments on my last post! This past year really has just flown by, and to where, I'm not quite sure...

The weekend was lovely, on Sunday we went on a cruise around the harbour and funnily enough, David and I both won two more cruises for two - what are the chances? Go on one cruise, come back with two more!

On Saturday night we went out for an evening picnic, it was the perfect weather to be out (minus the mozzies who for some reason always bite me and leave David alone). I wore the Lighthouse dress from Shabby Apple on our picnic. If you've ever looked through their site, you'll know it's full of beautiful vintage inspired dresses, perfect for long summer evenings. It's a lovely light weight cotton summer dress with a removable bow belt, great for mixing and matching with their other dresses or adding it to pieces you already own. It also has beautiful pleat detailing down the front with a cross over bust - I love little details like that.

I have my eye on a number of favourite pieces that I'm saving up for and if you have had your eye on something there too, Shabby Apple have generously offered a 10% off voucher to all of you! All you have to do is enter prettylittlepictures10off at the check out - just in time for some holiday shopping.

Have a thankful thanksgiving those of you who celebrate it (unfortunately we don't, I guess we are just an unthankful lot down here...)

Happy Halloween...

Monday, October 31, 2011
Happy Halloween everyone!!

We don't tend to celebrate these sorts of holidays much down here (in Australia or NZ!) which I find a bit sad, I like holidays and wish we got into them a little more. But I guess we are technically supposed to be celebrating Spring here, not Autumn. Speaking of Spring, it really has sprung now, we have been getting some glorious days, just perfect in fact for swimming in our new blow-up pool. Yup, David and I bought a kids blow-up pool. It may take up almost the entire courtyard, but we will be holding pool parties this summer - hehe!!

And guess what I discovered last week? The new Great Gatsby movie is currently being in filmed here in Sydney, and one of the locations they are currently filming at is just down the road from my house!! It's all very exciting but I am yet to see Leo or Carey (all we can really see are huge white tents and fancy campervan-type vehicles. It's been completely shut off to the public, sad face!) - we have invited them around for a pool party but we are still waiting to hear back. I'm sure they're just busy.

Right, off to eat the chocolate we bought for the trick or treaters just incase they came a knockin...

With Flowers in Your Hair...

Saturday, October 22, 2011
Hello,

With Spring and all the pretty blossoms that have popped out since the warm weather has arrived, I've been having a thing for flowers in my hair. I must build up my little collection of flowers! And speaking of hair, I really need to chop mine off, it's getting to warm for long hair now...

22nd October 2011 3

Today I joined the realm of real people and finally got an iphone (much to the delight of David who has an iphone, Mac computer + laptop and an ipad and is soon to be the proud owner of an iphone 4 thingy-ma-jig). Apps are way more fun when I get to play with them and Instagram got a work out this afternoon - any other fun apps you can reccomend?

I think I may also be gradually moving back to my sewing machine, I cut out a pretty wrap skirt today from some vintage cotton in my stash and I made it to the fabric store this afternoon and bought some gorgeous Japanese lawn for some light summer dresses.

Hope you are all having lovely weekends...

Goodbye Winter...

Sunday, October 16, 2011
A post a month it would seem I'm doing now! I could give you excuses (busy, blah blah, busy again, blah blah) but who cares, I'm here now :)

16th Oct 2011 3

16th Oct 2011

I still have several 'winter' outfits to post, but in Sydney, Spring really has pretty much sprung. It's time to take out the summer dresses and shoes and pack away the tights. I'm a bit sad about this though, I'm not quite ready for another hot and humid Sydney summer. If it can stay just like today, I'll be more than happy.

The dress I'm wearing is the one pattern, six bloggers dress I made just before we left for Vancouver back in June (which my goodness, was so so long ago now! I'll bug David for that post he's going to write too by the way). The cardigan is vintage and the belt is a thrifted one from Vancouver.

16th Oct 2011 4

I've not touched my sewing machine either since we got back from Vancouver. I have a Sorbetto blouse cut out and ready to sew, but I've just not felt like doing anything that involves sewing. This is not a good thing considering I have several summery things I need to make for my summer wardrobe. I've been very good these last few months and have not bought a single item of clothing, new or otherwise - I wonder how long I can keep it up...?

So what have you been up too? I need to catch up!!

I Can See You...

Saturday, September 17, 2011
It's a bit dusty around here isn't it? I guess it's high time to get back into blogging again now I think...

Glasses

I should wear glasses all the time and do most of the time but I always tend not to when doing outfit photos or when I'm going out with friends for some reason.

I recently got these new frames that I'm rather enamoured by though - I had been looking for some cat-eye frames but had never found the right ones (most of the vintage ones are a bit too much cat-eye for me, and the modern versions cost way too much than I think they should) so when I found these ones, I got both a black and a red pair - who could resist?

Where's a Time Machine When You Need One?

Friday, August 5, 2011
The weeks seem to have disappeared in a blur of work lately. The last few Fridays I've woken up and realised it's Friday again and have gone on to wonder where on earth my time has gone (not that I'm complaining that it's Friday, it is Friday after all!!). I was given a mini payrise at work and walked away with more stuff on my plate than I know what to do with - how does that happen anyway?

5th August 2011 2

5th August 2011

It seems summer has come early to Sydney this last week - we've had beautiful days of sunshine (to make up for the weeks of torrential rain perhaps?) and it's been too hot to wear a cardigan or a scarf or even a pair of stockings during the day (not that I would really know, I've spent the best parts of the day in my office with my computer and only getting quick glances of the lovely day outside from breaks between emails).

I have commissioned David to write a guest post on the Vancouver part of our trip because I'm sure he'll do it much more justice than I would, and then after that I'll write about a few more bits and pieces on specific things we did and then I'll stop boring you all with my (what seems like an age or two ago now) holiday.

I've not only spent my time being busy with work though, I've been working on something rather large that isn't quite ready to share with the world just yet - it's a few months away - but I do want to thank all of the amazing people who are helping me with it. You know who you are and I owe you all cupcakes!! Or maybe macarons - I've decided that they are the next thing I need to master in the baking department (Adriano Zumbo, eat your heart out!!).

5th August 2011 6

5th August 2011 4

This is really just a quick hello as it was high time to pop in, say hi and give you an outfit post (inspired by Orla Kiely and her happy mixes of polka dots and bright colours from a few weekends ago).

Have a great weekend all,

Cherished Collections...

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

I'm sure we all have collections of some sort, and when Casey put the word out about a little blog feature she was putting together of other people's collections, I couldn't resist putting my hand up to take part in the fun!

I have numerous collections, some are big and some are small, some I've been collecting for a while and others are new collections waiting to be added too. Here is just a small sample of some of my collections, I hope you enjoy...

Vintage dresses:
Collecting vintage dresses is really what got me started on this whole bloggy thing which means I treasure every single one. My first vintage dress is shown below, a light blue cotton summer dress. I have a few that need some minor adjustments before I can wear them, and there are lots that haven't quite made it onto the blog yet. Oops!

You can see me wearing some of my dresses on my flickr.

Vintage Home Journals:
I started collecting these about three years ago and I never really looked back! They are such sweet (if not a little sexist) reminders of a time gone by. Most of the magazines I have (some 30 or so I think) have come with the original patterns to make the garments on the front too.

Home Journal November 1st 1949

Jan 1st 1949

I have some scans from particular magazines on my flickr if you are interested in seeing the insides. More to come at later dates.

Vintage Patterns:
I have many many vintage patterns and I'm in the process of making the 40's peplum blouse and skirt set. I have a lot of dresses but am working on building up my blouse collection and I have a pant pattern on the way which I'm itching to try out for summer (but making pants does makes me nervous!).

Vintage Knitting Patterns:
I'm a novice knitter - I only just started knitting at the beginning of the year, and while I'm still working on the scarf I started at the same time, I'm sure I'll be making these patterns in no time! Well, fingers crossed anyway because I have several stacks of these patterns!

Collections 4

And that's it, just a tiny taste of some of my favourite collections. Make sure you check out Casey's blog for all the others taking part in the Cherished Collections Series.

The Butchardt Gardens...

Saturday, July 16, 2011
On a Sunday, our last full day in Victoria before boarding the ferry for Vancouver the next day, David and I spent the afternoon in The Butchardt Gardens.

They are absolutely stunning and I would recommend anyone go there in a heartbeat (yes, it's a wee bit expensive but so so worth it!!). And hey look, an outfit post all at the same time...

This is a beautiful vintage dress that I had hanging in my closet for a little while - it was originally a terrible coffee colour that made me look sick when I wore it. I eventually got round to buying some navy blue dye because I really wanted to wear it. I didn't leave the dress in the dye bath for too long though because I was worred about the flowers dyeing out, but it turned out a beautiful blue-grey colour and the flowers look perfectly pretty against it.
