Shorts and Shops...

Hi Everyone,

David is back and it is good :)

29th Oct 09

And because David is back, I get presents! Most of the time I can be rather vague when asked what I might want in terms of presents from people, but this time, all I wanted was strange sugary things from afar, and that is exactly what I got:

Yum. That meant yesterday I spent the better half of the day eating sugar, which is completely fine with me by the way.

Tomorrow night is date night which means dinner and a movie, yay. And because I chose last time, he gets to choose this time, so we are going to see
The Surrogates and I'm looking forward to it. A good bit of action never hurt anyone...

29th Oct 092

Also, I got sent a lovely message via Etsy today saying congratulations for having my red skirt featured on Etsy Finds. I had no idea, so started searching but never found anything - can you find it? I'd love to link it because its pretty darn exciting being featured in an Etsy finds post. I was searching in their blog, but perhaps its somewhere else?

Edited to add - David just found it for me, Thanks hun, its HERE!

And speaking of shops, I will have an update next week and I wanted to show you the dress I just finished making for a lovely lady. She emailed me with a photo, asked if I could do it, I said yes and away we went.

I won't lie and tell you that the pleats didn't kill me a little, but I love the way they turned out and am thinking of adding a pleated style skirt to the shop some time soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Hello readers,

First of all I'd like to thank you all for your kind words when I was sick, I still can't seem to shake the last legs of it off though and am still a bit congested.

24th Oct 09 2

But I'm really excited today because David is back from London, yay, I missed him lots and lots. I'm also really excited because this Saturday is Halloween and we are going to carve a pumpkin and bake pumpkin pie - yum.

24th Oct 09 3

24th Oct 09 5

And then to top it all off, this coming Monday is Davids birthday and the following weekend we are heading up to David's dads house in Naseby for the weekend. I can't wait to take my vintage bike out for a good ride along the water race and to just get away for a bit. I'll make David take lots of photos, promise...

PS) I have a vintage strawberry clip in my hair that you can kind of see in the last shot. And what outfit is complete without a strawberry clip in your hair?

Primary Colours...

Hi Readers,

I have a much needed shop update complete! I know what you're all thinking - 'you have a shop...?'

And, yes I do, its just been neglected of late. But I have still been working on custom orders, so technically, I was still doing shop-ish things.

I have three gorgeous skirts in the shop, two of them complete with my new decoration - rosettes!
And one made out of the most gorgeous vintage sailor fabric I have ever seen! And, I do still have some left, so, if you want something custom made out of it, let me know.

And I've just realised they are all primary colours...

Hello Hello...

Hello Readers,

Goodness me, it has been a while hasn't it?

20th October 09 5

Last week turned out to be rather eventful in that David left for London on Wednesday, I got sick on Thursday and have been sick for the whole weekend, and am still a bit sick now.

20th October 09 3

I realised today that I hadn't actually been in contact with a real human being since Friday morning, until today when I popped into work for a few meetings I needed to attend. I have talked to people on the phone (including David) but not actually face to face with a person. I think that's probably the longest time ever in my life!

20th October 09 1

I came down with a horrible flu, which has left me head achy, flemmy, snotty, sneezy and just generally gross. Oh, and when I get sneezy, I'm really not a dainty, lady like sneezer - oh no. I'm a big manly sneezer that could probably make small children cry if they heard me.

I am all bundled up because its freezing here! Don't let the sunshine fool you.

20th October 09 6

I just wanted to pop in and say hi, and let you know that I will have three new things up in the shop this week. And also to apologise for not replying to comments or emails. My inbox is massive, and I have been politely ignoring its massive-ness all weekend.

Lots of Words, Lots of Pictures...

Hello Everyone,

Beware - this post contains lots of pictures, and also lots of words that I think are important (towards the end anyway), so feel free to read on, or just look at the pretty pictures :)

Our weekend turned out to be lovely and sunny - but extremely windy! I took these photos on Sunday, and I am wearing my third Miss Deb Dress and I still cannot find out a thing about the brand. It also has a matching Bolero jacket, but I think its a bit much paired together.

12th Ocotber 09 3

On Friday I mentioned we were going to see 500 days of Summer, and I actually really liked it. The end was super cheese, but I loved Summer's outfits and I loved the soundtrack even more - so much so, that I got the album the next day.

12th Ocotber 09 4

On Saturday night, David and I watched a film called The Age Of Stupid, recommended to me by a friend about global warming. This is definetly something I think everyone should see. It makes you feel guilty, but in the best kind of way, it makes you actually want to do something about climate change.

12th Ocotber 09 6

The basic message is that we need to get our carbon emissions down by 10% - each and every person, because we are all responsible. And to be fair, 10% is absolutely nothing.

Here are a few of the things David and I already do -
1) Recycle paper, plastics and glass
2) Compost food scraps and put them into our worm farm
3) Grow our own summer veges
4) I wear vintage/upcycled clothing and use as many vintage/upcycled fabrics and materials when I sew

12th Ocotber 09 5

Things we are now going to start doing -
1) Start using recyclable bags for shopping. I have some lovely ones with awesome designs that I got a few years
back made from recycled cotton. Also, most shops and supermarkets now sell them.

2) Turn off all power sources when we are not at home (t.v, sterio etc. But, erm, don't turn off your fridge or freezer!)
3) Don't use the heat pump as much (we love our heat pump!)
4) Use biodegradable soap. I've just bought some of these - and I can't wait to try them!
5) Try to use the car less and get it serviced regularly (which we already do).

12th October 09 1

Things we would like to do when we settle down somewhere and buy our very own home -
1) Put in a wind turbine. They are so much more attractive than power lines! If we replaced every powerline with a
wind turbine, how much nicer would our cities look?

2) Grow our own fruit and veges year round (I cannot wait for this!!)
3) Get our own chickens (fresh eggs in the morning, yum!)
4) Attempt bee keeping - I've not actually discussed this with David, but I think he is keen as his Grandad used to
keep bees. If you've never read Neil Gaimans Blog, then do. He is one of my favourite authors, and he keeps
bees. Yesterday he posted about harvesting the honey, yum!

12th Ocotber 09 7

Anyway, sorry to blather on about climate change - but I think its all something we need to acknowladge, we are all educated people. And its so important to not think of it as 'but what differences will my small changes make?' but instead 'I am making changes along with millions of other people who, together, will make a huge difference!'.

And thats the end of my semi-rant. Promise. More posts about pretty, frivolous things next time - because, to be fair, I love pretty frivolous things just as much as the next person. And we can't be all serious all the time :)

The Weekend Again...

I was really happy to see your comments on my last post - I'm so glad I'm not the only one who writes posts in my head after all. And I completely agree that once I've written my imaginary post, I tend to forget how I wrote it, and it never turns out quite the same. Oh well, the burdens us bloggers must bare...

9th October 09

Moving onto other things - this is not what I am wearing today. Yesterday a cold front hit little old NZ and its freezing.
I am sitting here in front of a warm heater with tights, a woollen skirt, a thermal, a woollen cardigan and a scarf on. On the bright side, it is the perfect weather for a date night with David! Tonight we are heading out to dinner and then to see 500 Days of Summer at the theatre. Yay.

9th October 09m4

I took these photos with a tripod the other day when it was warm and sunny out the front of my house. I love my house, its sunny, in a beautiful neighbourhood, doesn't cost millions to live there and has a large, lush garden to take photos in, and I will be most sad to leave it. I don't think there will be anything like this that doesn't cost a bomb in Melbourne, or London, or wherever we end up next year.

9th October 09 2

Hope you all have a lovely weekend - mine involves sewing, and hopefully lots of it!

The Great Spectacle...

I've had these new specs for a few months now and have never showed you - what do you think?

oct 7th 1

Do you ever sometimes run out of things to say on your posts? I find that sometimes I have way too much to say and don't want to bore you all with my ramblings, yet other times (like today) I don't have very much to say at all.

7th October 09

Also, another question - do you sometimes find yourself writing blog posts in your head while doing things like driving, or in the shower? Or if something really exciting happens, you start thinking about how you are going to describe it in your next post? I hope its not just me - I find I do it all the time. I've even written this post before where I was asking you if you did the same thing.

Wind, Snow and Rain...

Hello Hello,

I'm back, and all of my events for the year are over except one last market day next week. Everything went incredibly well and I had lots of people telling me that I could leave with my head held high - which I am. I'm exhausted, but happy that everything is essentially over, and now for the next few months I am just planning for next year.

5th October 09 4

This weekend was full on - on Friday, I was lucky enough to be given some tickets for my staff for the Dunedin show of the Wellington International Ukelele Orchestra (we helped them with some promotion!). And it was truely amazing. They are an incredibly talented group of people - and listening to Sweet Child Of Mine sung by 11 people playing the ukelele was insane. You should check them out if you are in NZ - they are still touring.

And then Saturday was the last of the awards nights.
I do have some photos from my events which I'll post this week. Some of them though, you can't actually see my outfit that well, so I'll need to do re-creations :)

5th October 09 3

These photos I took on Sunday, it was wet and rainy and snowy on the hills. I was experimenting with different places to take outfit shots and just general pretty little pictures too. I can't believe its the second month of Spring and we still have snow!

5th October 09

David and I have both been working hard lately - him more so because he is trying to finish his masters, apply for PHD scholarships and mark essays for the tutorial he takes. He is also off to London next week for 10days with his dad.

His dad turns 60 this month and wanted to spend it with his boys and since David's brother lives in London - the both of them are off to spend some time together.

I'm jealous, but mostly sad that I am going to be by myself for 10days. But I have given him a secret mission to accomplish for me while over there. I won't tell you what it is just in case though! Soon soon...

And with that, the end of this post. Expect posting to become alot more regular now and expect some shop updates in the next few weeks. I've been working on custom orders when I can in my spare time, hence no new things for the shop lately - sorry.

ps) I also plan to catch up on blogs and comments this week too. Yay! I have missed you.

Halloween is Nearly Here...

Yay, it's October and I can finally talk about Halloween!

1st October 09

I've been excited about Halloween since August, but have held back from mentioning it here because it was such a long wait.

I don't really know why I'm excited, David and I don't really have any plans except that when I mentioned I was really excited, David suggested we carve pumpkins - Yuss!

New Zealand doesn't celebrate Halloween besides from putting scary movies on T.V. I tried trick-or-treating when I was younger, and people just stared at us and thought we were strange. So, when I was in America, I made sure we went trick-or-treating, my friends even bought me a pumpkin to carve beacause I had never done it before (which they thought was strange).

So, I'm counting down!

What do you guys have planned?

PS) I also really really really want to bake a pumpkin pie from scratch, does anyone have any good recipes?
