Freesias in Tea Cups...

My weekend was long, I am tired, it's still raining and doesn't look set to clear up anytime this week either.

28th sep 09 2

What has also made me more tired than I should be, is daylight savings. We lost a whole hour yesterday and it didn't help that I didn't actually get up until about 11.30am then spent the better half of the day in my pyjamas before finally getting into the shower around 2pm. David did have a nice analogy for our loss of an hour though - it's like tax, you pay it now and you'll get a refund when winter hits.

28th sep 09 4

Our events went flawlessly though - the freesias are from our table centre pieces from Thursday and Saturday (yes, we recycle our flowers!). We were hoping they would last until this Saturday's event too, but we aren't holding our breath, hence why I took some home. I love them, they smell delightful and are one of my favourite flowers along with lillys.

28th sep 09 5

I've been wanting to wear this outfit for a while now but couldn't find a cream waistcoat until recently. Its an outfit inspired by this outfit that Zooey wears in 500 days of summer.
I love the relaxed, casual man-ish style of it. Something a bit different from the norm and so comfy in this terrible Spring weather. I can't wait for the film to come out here - I've read many reviews on other blogs and as long as the costumes stand up, then I'm fine with the story being a bit lame.

Sorry for the terrible photo - there are better ones of this outfit but I couldn't find them.

The suitcase I got for $6 at our last marketday - I didn't get a shot of it, but it even has a post sticker on it from the interislander (it crosses the strait from the North Island to the South Island). Cool huh?

Also, my google reader currently tells me I have 600 posts to read. Argh! So, if I haven't visited your blog for a while, well, that's why. I hope to do some catching up next week, just let me finish this last big event :)

Dear Weather Man...

Just a quick post to tell you that....IT'S BEEN SNOWING!!

24th Sep 09

24th Sep 09 2

Dear Weather Man,

Its supposed to be Spring! There was ice on our car this morning...
It would be much appreciated if you could put it back to the weather it was last week.

Yours Sincerely,

Ps) Tonight is the first of our awards dinners. I get to put my public speaking skills to the test by reading out all the awards recipients and the blurbs that go along with them, yay for me.

Wish me luck and I'll see you next week because we have another event on tomorrow night and then another on Saturday. Phew...

Pretty Posts...

Sorry for the late-ness of this post, it was actually meant to be for yesterday but the day sort of got away on me. We have three big events in a row coming up this week – Thursday is the first of our awards dinners, Friday is a big town and gown event and Saturday is another awards night. The following Saturday we have yet another awards night and then things finally peeter out a little.

All these awards nights mean I get to bring out some of the stash of beautiful vintage dresses I’ve been hoarding. And I mean hoarding, really, I have so many summer dresses...

22nd Sep 09 4

Speaking of vintage dresses, these photos were taken on sunny Sunday by none other than David (thank you!). But it's no longer sunny here, today is pouring down with rain.

These were taken behind our house, and behind me is our apple tree that I am waiting with baited breath to fruit. David and I picked masses of apples towards the end of summer last year and we stewed a bunch and froze them, then bought them out when we felt like crumble during winter. We also froze a bunch to make our own apple cider, which I did actually take photos of, but never posted – I’ll find those and post them soon.

22nd Sep 09

I’ve also been thinking a lot lately about the photos I post. I really loved posting those baking shots last week that David took and it really made me want live up to my namesake and actually post ‘Pretty Little Pictures’.

I really don’t put in that much effort when I’m taking outfit shots – I balance a camera on my dressing table in our bedroom and voila, a picture is taken. So, I am going to endeavour to take prettier pictures. I don’t promise that I will be able to do it all the time, but I’m going to give it a good try!

22nd Sep 09 2
Yes, I think my eyes are closed - it was bright!

Also, some of you asked where the final shot of me with my scones was – and to tell you the truth, David has now learnt that for every one shot I like, there are ten I don’t. There was only one photo of me with the finished result of my efforts, and I didn’t like it, so away it went.

Oh, and my Sunday also turned out to be somewhat productive and I finally sorted out a bunch of clothes that I had culled from my wardrobe weeks ago. But I am having some major issues getting rid of some pieces that I know I'll never wear again but still really love!! How do I let go of my somewhat emotional attachment and get rid of them? Help!

PS) I took this shot of the sunset last night - we have been having some beautiful ones lately...

Interviews and Shop Updates

Before I start this post I wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Casey who has just done the loveliest interview with me and has posted it on her blog. I think this may be my very first interview and she has done some amazing things with the pictures too - I wish I could turn my images into collages, maybe thats something I can teach myself this summer.

Anyway, make sure you pop over and take a look!

Now, I have a short shop update for you. I've just listed a Halter Dress and a Halter Top - both of these are made to order from your measurements and you get to choose fabric from my massive stash.

Halter 2

I also just wanted to let you all know that I do take on custom orders for my skirts too and that it doesn't cost any extra. So, if there is something you are wanting that isn't in your size/a colour you like, then flick me an email/etsy convo and we can go from there.

This post was originally meant to be a shop update, but the photos I took were terrible and need to be redone (hopefully tonight!), and then this current post was supposed to be posted yesterday but I had a very exhausting late night at work last night, and so its coming to you now.

These photos were taken on Sunday by David (Thanks Hun!) while I was baking scones. The apron is vintage - I have two now, do I smell a collection coming on?

I think this would be a perfect advertorial shot for 'Edmonds Baking Powder - Sure to Rise'. Maybe?

And The Winner Is...

Drum roll please... Yay, congratualtions Andi - Let's talk skirts shall we?

And to all those others who entered, thank you so much! This give away was such a success that I'm going to be doing another one closer to Christmas time to spread the cheer a bit more!!

I also just wanted to let you all know that I didn't draw names from a hat - mostly because I didn't feel like writing out 88 names, so I used a random number generator instead.

11th Sep 09

Today is gloriously sunny again, and its Friday to boot. I also just wanted to let you all know (incase you didn't already) that love Spring!! Especially when you find a little daffodil growing in a weed strewn pot behind your house and you have no idea how it got there...

Things to Look Forward To...

Again, I’m simply blown away by the amount of people entering my give away – and a huge thank you to all those that linked the give away on their blogs.

9th September 09 2

I must say, I’ve had some awesome reasons from you all as to why you would like to win a Jennifer Lauren skirt – from being poor students (I can totally sympathise, not that I’m a rich member of the working class now though either…), to wanting to spice up your wardrobe, from needing inspiration, to wanting to own at least one skirt! I’ve had poems and I’ve had jokes, and I did laugh, I swear!!

And there is still time to enter too – I’ll be drawing the name this Thursday evening my time – and because I’m in New Zealand, I’m ahead of you all, so probably around Wednesday is the cut off day for all you ‘other side of the world’ lot. So make sure you get a wriggle on.

Also, in other Jennifer Lauren related news, I’m going to be launching a new top and dress design in the next few weeks. These will be made to order from your specifications and I’m more than happy to take on any orders, from petite to plus! Same goes for all my other designs currently in the shop too. I’m also going to be launching a new design feature that I will be able to add to any skirts/dresses that you may desire.

So, do keep a look out…

PS) Some of you were wondering if that is my yard in the photos in the post below, and yes it is. We have two massive rhododendron trees that are in full bloom (one of which you can see). The cherry trees have just begun to lose their little blossoms but the apple tree behind the back of the house is beginning to look alive again.

Vintage Bikes...

7th September 09 2

Wow - I am truely blown away by the amount of responses I've had to my give away. I didn't think I'd get that many in a week, let alone a weekend! And there is still heaps of time to enter (it closes this Thursday my time, so Wednesday for you northern Hemisphere'ers). If you haven't entered, all the info is on the post below this...

As promised - here is my little vintage bike. I just need to buy some white handle grips for it and then it will be perfect.

The weekend was wonderful and full of sun and warmth - I only needed a light woolen cardi on Saturday! We went to the farmers market for gallettes, which had sold out, so went for GF pancakes with bacon and banana instead - YUM!

After that, I dropped David off at his office so he could spend the afternoon working while I did a spot of shopping (though didn't buy much) and then went home to take photos of my bike.

David has been roped in to take photos of me actually on the bike next weekend - I have discovered that my camera timer dosn't let me run back to the bike, pick it up, jump onto it and then start riding it. Here are some failed attempts...

Give Away, Give Away...

I have just updated my shop with two new little skirts. Sorry for the long delay in updating, hopefully that should get more regular from now on.

Turquoise circle5

Navy Bow4
The Bow is removable too...

And, now, without further ado, it's time to announce my very first ever give away!

I am offering you the chance to win your very own, custom made Jennifer Lauren skirt. Yup, that's right, we will talk colour, style, embellishments (pockets, sashes, bows etc), length, width everything!

All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me why you should win.

Feel free to spread this far and wide - or not, because the less people that know, the less that will enter and the more chance you have of winning! It all makes perfect sense really...

I will be drawing the winners name out of a hat (how very scientific of me) a week from today and will announce the winner the day after.

Good luck,

Springy Mc Spring-som...

1st September 09

Today is officially Spring and last night on the News it said to expect snow in the south…

I am somewhat back to normal with work and will have a shop update for you on Thursday with two new skirts and hopefully a few more to come next week. I am also going to do my first ever give away , so keep a look out.

It was an honour to learn last week that I was chosen as Vintage Queen number 34 on the Queens of Vintage list of top 100 queens. I was quite taken aback because I really wasn’t expecting it - I had been approached by them at the end of last year to be on the list and of course said yes, not thinking it would ever actually eventuate. There are so many beautiful vintage queens out there, so it is a huge honour to be a part of the list.

I need to say a big thanks to the lovely Sara who did a shout out on her blog featuring one of the skirts from my Etsy shop a few weeks ago and now I have the pleasure of passing on a few awards…

The first is from Eileen at the Shoe of Salvation – I have to give you 10 interesting facts about me so here they are (I think I may be repeating some of them from the last time I did one of these, but that was a long time ago!!).

1) I’ve never dyed my hair. Ever. I go through phases of really wanting a change, to then realizing I can’t be bothered with maintaining a fake colour and deciding that I really do like my hair colour. However, when I start to go grey I’m going to dye it a very vibrant red. But fingers crossed that’s not for a few years yet.

2) I have two tattoos, a belly button piercing, a nose piercing and two ear piercings in each ear. I’m deciding what I want my third tattoo to be and where I want it, decisions, decisions…

3) I have a Marketing degree

4) I used to live in Papua New Guinea when I was little, my Mum, sister and I moved back to New Zealand when I was 5 so I could start school here.

5) I am gluten free and have been for about 2 ½ years now – I plan to start writing more about my experiences with being gluten free and start sharing recipes soon too.

6) I just bought the cutest vintage bike ever!! Pictures to come soon.

7) I am blind and should wear glasses all the time – I don’t…

8) My favourite season is Autumn, but at the moment I am all for Spring and Summer. It has been quite the harsh winter down here this year.

9) I’m addicted to chocolate and sugar and am attempting to give it up (ha!) – they need to create chocolate patches for chocoholics just like they do for people trying to give up nicotine.

10) David and I won’t know what’s happening next year until the end of December when we find out about whether he has been given a scholarship. The adventurous person in me finds this thrilling, the events planner (aka small control freak) in me has turned her nose up at this and finds it very unamusing.

The second is the Awesome Girl Award from lovely Janetteria, if you haven’t checked out her
blog then you should head over there right now!!

And I know there was a third, but I can’t find it or remember who gave it to me! Eek. Sorry. Next time I’ll pass awards on straight away, I just tend to get lazy about doing them for some reason.

If you would like to do the 10 interesting facts meme, please do and let me know, I always like reading those, there are so many things you don’t know about people. And the second award I’d like to pass onto everyone in my blog roll and if you’re not on there and would like to be,
let me know!!.
