Thank you...

I sat down at my sewing machine for the first time in over 5months last night to make some adjustments on 9 vintage dresses I seemed to have magically acquired during that time (funny how that happens). This made me realise that David and I have been in Sydney for 5 months now, and my goodness how the time has just flown by...

We have slowly settled into a routine here and, believe it or not, are really only just starting to make inroads into exploring the place. Sydney is huge and there are so many gems to be found.

I have met some lovely lovely people here and all of those people, believe it or not, I've met through blogging. I'm at a loss as to what I would have done if I hadn't started blogging - trying to meet people and make friends is HARD!

Making friends is a bit like dating - you have the semi awkward first date, where you talk about your interests, where you grew up, pet peeves etc. And after the first date jitters come the questions and slight insecurities - who makes contact first? Did they even like you? Does the three day rule apply? (you don't want to seem too needy after all...). And once that's all done, if things go according to plan, you go in for the double date - what will your partner think of them? Or even scarier, what will your partner think of their partner?

Its all a bit mind boggling, and I'm completely aware that these things take time to brew (good things do take time after all!). And so I need to say a huge thank you to all those people in Sydney who have reached out, its made things so much easier. Thank you for the lunches, and the coffees and the dinners. The suggestions of places to see, of things to do - you don't know what they mean to me.

I'd also like to say a big heartfelt thank you to all my readers as well, your lovely, kind, intelligent and thoughtful comments mean so much more than I can say. Thank you for bearing with me as we moved, the ups and downs, the ins and outs, the long silences - thank you all so much for being my friends where ever you are in the world.

The amazing thing about this community, of which I am so grateful to be a part of, is that no matter where you are, you always have friends, even if you've never even met them before.

I absolutely love that little cardi!

And I thought that was the sweetest post - especially since I am right now in the process of packing up to move! It's so true re having to date when you meet new friends!!

I'm glad things are getting easier for you. I know it's hard to move and make friends, so I'm so glad you've been able to do things and meet people.

Your outfit is so pretty. Good luck with altering your new dresses!

I love your blue cardigan, it's so cute!

It's very true what you said about making friends, exactly what I've been thinking about. I truly hope that when I move somewhere, probably quite soon, I won't have to be all alone with no friends.

You look so warm and snuggly in that outfit. But not in a smothered-by-a-coat type of way.

I think it gets so much harder to make friends as you get older, people tend to have their own groups by then and they are a wee bit harder to crack! We have been in Melbourne just over a year now and have a great group of friends. But it was hard work!

You took the words out of my mouth when it comes to meeting new friends. I've come to the conclusion that it's really a probability game, and when you're in a place (eg, college) where there are a ton of people around that you get to meet in an acquaintance-like setting, you have a much larger pool to draw from and get to know when trying to meet closer friends. I feel like I keep putting myself out there, only to realize that I might only find five people in 200 people total---but meeting those 200 people is exhausting. No wonder I feel like being at home baking pies or thrifting. It's just hard to work up the will to meet people when you have no idea what the outcome will be...

And that periwinkle cardigan is wonderful. I love it.

Its like you jumped through time from another decade, very lovely outfit. :) I love the shade of blue on your sweater.
I agree with you about making friends, especially through blogging, haha. I'm a bit socially awkward so making friends through the blog-o-sphere is a bit easier for me, ha. I know there are a couple of people I would love to meet in real life though.
Anyway, thanks for commenting on my blog. :)

Complete outfit adoration! That cardigan is as sweet as can be.

Let me know if you want to do dinner/lunch/pancakes soon. And the Aroma Festival is next month... now that you must come to :)

I think owning vintage really does force you to learn how to tailor...but that's not a bad skill to know :)

As for making friends, it can be daunting sometimes, especially once you are out of school and you don't have insta-friends.

I just saw your tweet from yesterday about sewing after a 5-month hiatus! Gee, now I don't feel like I've been the only one unable to sew lately. ;) hehe!

I'm so glad to hear you're getting settled in and meeting new people in Sydney! I always am so shy--it's terribly hard for me to actually meet people and not be a nervous wreck. lol. This is the aspect of moving I do not enjoy. lol.
