Vets, Kittys and Going Green...

Its grey and rainy today but its supposed to clear up - personally, I think its getting worse, but what would I know, I'm not a weather man or lady!

So I have had to revert back to my trusty wall for outfit shots.

This morning I took Mocha to the vet. She has now been vaccinated and wormed and is a little more traumatised than she was when we left. The ride home always seems to be much quieter though, I think the drugs must kick in and she gets a little high.

There were two boxes of kittens in the reception when we came out and a little adult cat sitting in a cage with a note saying 'Free to a good home'. As I waited for the receptionist to get off the phone, I seriously considered taking it home with me and would have if we were staying here.

But after doing the sums in my head of sending another cat over to Australia, I just don't think we could afford it. Plus, it wouldn't be fair on the poor little kitty - he would get home and be here for two weeks before being put on a plane, staying in a cattery for a month and then being sent over to Sydney. It wouldn't be enough time for him to get to know us and Mocha (and Mocha to get to know to him). So, I sadly left the little kitty there. I really hope he finds a good home soon, he deserves to be roaming around outside, not stuck in a cage.

In other news though, David and I are going to adopt another kitty when we get to Sydney! This makes me happy - we are more than capable of giving another kitty a good home, so why wouldn't we? I plan to have more cats roaming around when we have our own home some day too.

Any way, must head off. I have things to pack up for the post and I should really start sorting out things to pack, that is my job for the next few weeks after all.

Ps) I had an idea on the weekend - I'm going to start up a regular 'living green' feature on my blog as well as the 'living gluten free' feature. I've realised that I am actually rather passionate about the subject and would like to share my experiences and the things that I discover with you all.

While this is still going to be primarily a fashion blog, I would like to flesh out my ramblings a bit with something more substancial that may help a few people out along the way.

I would like to experiment with the different products, ideas and ways that we can go greener in our everyday lives and report back on my findings. And, if you are already living greener and have tips and tricks to share, I would love to hear about them and feature a few guest posts on my blog - so if you are interested, let me know, I'd love to have you.

  1. Posts on living greener sound great - it's something I'm really interested in, too.

I did a double take when I saw this outfit, because I've worn one that is almost exactly the same! Clearly we have good taste. ;)

Also, hooray for getting another kitty! Having a new family member when you arrive will make it seem like home even more quickly.

  3. Not sure what you're doing for living arangements when you get here to Sydney, but quite a lot of rentals are "no pets". Just be careful while you're looking for places.

  4. Yay for moar kittehs! If you're looking for a good place to find one, my boyf just adopted the most adorable kitten from the Cat Protection Society (at Enmore in the inner west). The cats come microchipped, desexed, etc for only $150. The staff there are wonderful and obviously have a lot of love for their wards. In short: highly recommended!

  6. That is awesome news about wanting to adopt another cat when you get to Sydney -- I got Leika off petrescue.com.au and Cobber from Concord Animal Hospital (he was put up for adoption via the Cat Protection Society at Newtown/Enmore).

Good luck with packing, the move, and everything besides!

  7. Awwww the poor pussy cat! I hate seeing that. I'd take them all home if I could!! Gorgeous outfit, the shorts and the tights are too cute!

  8. Those are the cutest shorts, where in the world did you find them?

  9. Really cute outfit... I especially love those high-waisted shorts. A perfect piece you can wear in zillions of ways...! I also like the idea you wrote about at the end, little tidbits here and there of ways to 'go green' and the gluten free thing. I went gluten-free for 3 months for health reasons, and it was fun trying new foods!

    Thanks for sharing :]

  10. Gorgeous outfit!

I hope those kitties find a new home soon. And a new for Sydney kitten, lovely :) I want to be a crazy cat lady now, but John is less keen, and thinks one is enough!

    I would be interested in green posts, and gl;

  11. First, I adore your outfit! I really need those shorts! Second I'm excited about your new idea. I am a vegetarian and have to eat 100% organic so it'll be great to hear what you have to say :o)

  13. Adorable blouse! The picture of you sitting on the floor with your feet out is so cute!
I'm sure that little cat will find a good home with someone just like you (who is not moving!)

  14. Probably a very good choice leaving behind the kitten, but oh goodness, isn't it just the hardest thing? The free cats at the vets get me every time!

The shoes are perfect with this outfit. I look forward to the new content lady!

  16. Love your outfit. I'm inspired to wear shorts this winter (with tights of course.) I'm a new reader to your blog but love all the pretty dresses on your website. I'm totally down with green posts. One of my fave bloggers(she also has a fashion section) is about living green:bonzaiaphrodite.com. I also just started a blog.

  18. This is such a cute outfit! Those shorts and shoes are perfect!! :D

The other day I was in the pet shop, and there were some rescued kitties up for adoption. I wanted to bring them home so badly! But I have a hamster and a rat, so...probably not the best idea! :/

  21. Super cute outfit! I just love those shorts and your shoes are too cute.
I'm sorry you couldn't give the kitty a home but you were thinking in its interest. It's really nice that you'll be adopting one once you move though. It's such a nice feeling to adopt and help an animal out isn't it?

  23. Oh I love those shoes, the colour is perfect!

And yay for a new kitty! Introducing a new one is always exciting, scary and wonderful - you just don't know how they get on, if they do at all... (We have seven cats, all really distinct personalities. After introducing the last 2 we had a couple of weeks of hissing and horrid fights, and ended up dividing the house into two spaces, but it works and the cats are happy!)

  24. oh i'm excited for the living green section! great idea!

  26. Cute outfit :)

Adopting a kitty in sydney is a great idea so long as you can get a rental place that allows cats. You probably won't be able to in any apartments. Most are 'pet-free' environments.

You can also adopt kitties from the RSPCA. I always feel sorry for those poor abandoned cats - but I can't have one with my puppy dog!

  27. It´s been a long time since I haven´t checked my blog list, and it´s always a pleasure coming to your blog. Though you probably don´t remember much of me, I have thought of you for the last weeks, as I was setting up an etsy store myself and OMG....it does take a lot more work than one would expect!
How exciting...moving city, getting engaged :) best of luck with all that!!
As for the green blog..I would love to read that, really!

  28. ....oh....and adopting a new cat....I really want to adopt a pet, but my boyfriend has been putting it off as he thinks it is too much responsability....Glad your man seems to agree with you on that ;)

  29. I adore these shorts on you. This whole outfit is just so cute!

  30. I love these sailor shorts!! I need a a pair for roller derby...

  31. Such a cute outfit! Shorts and tights are the best! Can't wait for a green living post and I'm curious to know what being gluten free actually entails.
P.S. I really love your blog and your adorable cat, so I've given you an award from my (photo-shy) cat and I.

  32. You look so cute! I love the textured tights with shorts... :)

We saw some kitties up for adoption this past weekend and had serious thoughts about bringing one home too. ;) We just worry that with our bunny it might be a bit too much right now. *sigh* But I love having cats around, so I think we'll probably get one (or two! ;) eventually!

I'm so excited to read your thoughts and experiences with going green and glutin-free living! I've been trying to intigrate going green more and more into my life; so far it's just been using the recycling bin they (finally!) installed at our apartment and slowly switching over to homemade cleaning products (been cleaning with homemade solutions in the kitchen for a few months, and so far, no one has gotten sick! rofl).

Anyway, enough rambling... Hope everything is going well with the moving craziness! :)

  33. Those shoes are gorgeous!

Right now I can't financially afford to adopt a cat. Once I get a little more stable, I hope to be able to have a little four footed friend around the house.

  34. Congrats on the news of adopting a new kitty.

I am in love with your shorts. Also your shoes and stockings are pretty darn adorable as well.
