Here is the second set of pictures from Naseby of me on my vintage bike.

11th November 09 3

There are a few lessons I learnt that day:

1) Don't wear a long-ish dress while cycling. It means you need to pull it up right past your knees so you can cycle comfortably and the person taking the photos needs to make sure they don't take, ahem, inappropriate ones.

2) Wear proper shoes.

3) Understand whether your bike is a road bike or a mountain bike. I discovered that mine is a road bike, and even cycling along the race was a smidge difficult because of all the stones and holes I had to avoid. Unfortunately, one such hole jumped out at me and got me which meant I toppled off my bike and nearly tumbled down the side of a slope before I caught myself. The dress and the bike were unharmed, my stockings, however, were unable to be saved.

And for those of you wondering - why, yes I am a safety concious rider. Helmets on stat!

love that dress and that bike! These pics are the epitome of my favourite things about spring and summer (which are a distant memory over here in dreary winter-time Canada ;)

very cute photos! but i had always wondered about all the bloggers who post pics of themselves and their bikes and how pretty they looked in their dresses and i thought but how?! and i guess maybe it was just for show cause from what you said and as i suspected biking in a dress is tricky!

Very cute! The best part is the gear on the bike (first photo). So sweet and quaint, for a gear!

Super cute! Sorry to hear about the tumble – poor stockings! – but I am glad that you are ok, and had fun!

How fun! I bike everywhere but I am too nervous to do so in a skirt! But I'll heed your advice and may take the plunge.

I love your outfit! The cardigan is really perfect for pairing with vintage dresses, and the polka dots are adorable (and the echo the texture of the cardi). Lovely photos, too!

You are too, too cute! :) Yes, riding bikes in skirts, especially when people brandishing cameras are about, can be a bit treacherous at times! hehe. But isn't it so fun to, though? I always feel like I'm in an old movie. ;) Seeing these photos is making me want to go bicycle riding soon. Alas though, my trusty mountain bike (a rather ugly shade of teal, I might add... :p) finally bit the dust.

You and your bike are so sweet! I have a vintage bike too, just an 80's road bike but I love it. Your outfit matches the bike so perfectly! Looks like a really nice spot for a ride. I added you to my blogroll, by the way!

And I'm glad to see the helmet. It's a shame you can't get more pretty ones.

Just keep practicing. Here in Holland we do almost everything by bike and I ride it with whatever I am wearing at the moment, so that includes a lot of dresses (long and short) and high heels :-) (And nobody wears helmets, by the way...)

Lovely dress,very cute!

You look so cute biking in your polka dot dress and safety-conscious helmet! :) We have to wear them by law here - it scares me when I see people biking on a busy street without them.

What about wearing bike shorts or leggings under your dress? I've never biked in a skirt, but I think I'd definitely wear leggings if I did. I'm actually considering moving closer to work in a more bike-friendly area, so provided that I'm close enough, I'd love it if I could bike around most of the time rather than always relying on the bus or car.

I wore the dress I bought from you today - got so many compliments. I felt amazing wearing it! Plus i don't normally wear dresses like that so it was a nice change :)
