Pretty Posts...

Hello,

Sorry for the late-ness of this post, it was actually meant to be for yesterday but the day sort of got away on me. We have three big events in a row coming up this week – Thursday is the first of our awards dinners, Friday is a big town and gown event and Saturday is another awards night. The following Saturday we have yet another awards night and then things finally peeter out a little.

All these awards nights mean I get to bring out some of the stash of beautiful vintage dresses I’ve been hoarding. And I mean hoarding, really, I have so many summer dresses...

Speaking of vintage dresses, these photos were taken on sunny Sunday by none other than David (thank you!). But it's no longer sunny here, today is pouring down with rain.

These were taken behind our house, and behind me is our apple tree that I am waiting with baited breath to fruit. David and I picked masses of apples towards the end of summer last year and we stewed a bunch and froze them, then bought them out when we felt like crumble during winter. We also froze a bunch to make our own apple cider, which I did actually take photos of, but never posted – I’ll find those and post them soon.

I’ve also been thinking a lot lately about the photos I post. I really loved posting those baking shots last week that David took and it really made me want live up to my namesake and actually post ‘Pretty Little Pictures’.

I really don’t put in that much effort when I’m taking outfit shots – I balance a camera on my dressing table in our bedroom and voila, a picture is taken. So, I am going to endeavour to take prettier pictures. I don’t promise that I will be able to do it all the time, but I’m going to give it a good try!

Yes, I think my eyes are closed - it was bright!

Also, some of you asked where the final shot of me with my scones was – and to tell you the truth, David has now learnt that for every one shot I like, there are ten I don’t. There was only one photo of me with the finished result of my efforts, and I didn’t like it, so away it went.

Oh, and my Sunday also turned out to be somewhat productive and I finally sorted out a bunch of clothes that I had culled from my wardrobe weeks ago. But I am having some major issues getting rid of some pieces that I know I'll never wear again but still really love!! How do I let go of my somewhat emotional attachment and get rid of them? Help!

PS) I took this shot of the sunset last night - we have been having some beautiful ones lately...

I make sure to take pictures (a photoshoot of sorts) in all of the things that I really enjoyed wearing but "grew" out of...the other thing you could do (especially since you are a seamstress) is try and refashion them into other things.

ha ha! I can relate to these photographing woes. I FINALLY bought a tripod...I'm hoping this will help with the photo taking and help me take better outfit pics as well (while also keeping hubby from going loopy due to me coercing him to take pics, then getting pouty b/c 9 out of 10 are yucky). I love your dress, hair, and make-up, by the way.

This dress is so adorable, and it looks great on you! You're lucky to have an apple tree - we've been getting apples at our farmers market (and apple cider) lately; so yummy!

That dress is so cute!! Those are very pretty little pictures! About getting rid of clothes, it always helps me to find something I want and justify getting it by getting rid of something else!

hello! when i have clothes that i no longer wear but cannot bear to part with, i archive them. i vacuum seal them then i place them in the attic or under my bed or somewhere out of the way. that way when my girls grow up and they discover the hidden treasures i have stored away, i won't have to say to myself "oh i wish i had kept that!" Oh, and thanks for visiting my blog too! Hx

That dress is just so sweet, perfect for a sunny spring day!
I recently bought a tripod and have been venturing out in the weekends to take photos in pretty places. It's quite fun as long as you don't mind people staring!

These are very pretty pictures - I have been trying out taking my own photos. I'm so slow with the camera that I didn't even know how to put it on self-timer - just learnt though - yay!

It is another beautiful day here in Wellington! (Though I am actually home with a terrible cold curled up watching Six Feet Under).

Am wishing the sun down to you!

Lovely sunset!

I have a hard time getting rid of clothes too, but I decide that if I just haven't worn them in a year and can't think of any upcoming use, that maybe someone else could find a way to use them instead.

I love your polka dot dress! It reminds me very much of this one from Mad Men.

Oh your dress is very cute.
I have the same problems as you with attachment to clothes. My wardrobe is litrally busting at the seams, yet I cant part with anything, and when I do it seems just as full as it was before :(
Oh well, better too many clothes than not enough hey :)
I really like your white shoes in the first pic too.

Ooh! That dress looks so happy! And I love the pic with the cat - they are really the worst to take pictures with, I've found. My cat always looks like she's leaving the picture too.
Very pretty little pictures! :o)

it's always best if you have somebody else to take your pictures.. as my boyfriend lives some 500miles away from here i almost never have anybody else to take them for me, which is kind of sad - i guess i should ask my friends more often!

The polka dots are so fresh and pretty. Love your white shoes too. If your clothes are in pristine condition then do as Heidi suggests - store them. I'm not sure the vacuum thing works well for all materials, so check best methods first.

You look so, so pretty! :) That dress is adorable--I just love the print. :)

I know what you mean about culling things and not wanting to get rid of them! I definitely have a small pile of things I've been trying to bring myself to give away, but a part of me still loves (even if the color/style/size isn't right anymore). I actually put a stack of stuff away for a couple months, went back and pulled a few things out, and finally gave away the rest. Which probably wasn't the best idea--things making their way back into my closet! But c'est la vie... lol!

Wow, men are all the same, aren't they? My husband is the same way. I only like 1 out of ten, that same as you, and he gets so bored of taking my pictures unless it's his own inspiration... ugh! LOL :)

These photos are lovely of you, I love the dress and your hair!!!

Lovely dress and lovely pictures!
And I know what you mean about culling clothes – I can donate almost all, and then there are some left that I know I wont wear, but, you know, I might change my mind..!
Glad you have had some nice weather there, I am waiting for Spring – still! – here so I can gt out my summer stuff too! :D
