Knitwit...

Knitwit1

This is a little knitted sweater I got before I went on holiday but didn’t have enough time to show you before I left. The colour is perfect and its also a great little top for Dunedin summers where it tends to be four seasons in one day.

One thing that I actually really like about buying vintage is that most of the time the country where you bought the garment is more than likely the place the garment was made. I think every single vintage piece I own was made right here in New Zealand – today, although I’d like to support New Zealand business, buying new garments made here is quite far down my list of priorities - the prices alone put me off completely.

On a completely different note, I’m thinking about cutting my hair off. Not drastically, but maybe going for a cute, edgy little bob with a bit of length. I do have to be very careful about going into extreme bob land because I have a very round face and very fine, naturally curly hair that tends not to behave in wet, windy and humid conditions. Yesterday I let my hair dry naturally for the first time in a very long time and being my hair it went super curly around my face, had limp waves at the back and frizz like you’ve never seen before. And then because its so fine, by the end of the day most of the curl was gone and by this morning I had lightly wavy, still frizzy hair.

The problem with fine hair is that it goes flat really easily, especially on the days I don’t wash it, and so I kind of have a liebemarlene current hair cut in mind, but slightly longer. I think my curls go flat because my fine hair can’t handle the weight of it being long and I figure, if I’m going to start letting my hair go a little curly, I may as well go all out and get big, messy bed hair curls using an awful lot of product. Hopefully it works…

What do you think? A change for the start of 2009? I’m going to book in with the hair dresser next week if they are open, so let me know if you think I’m making a mistake I’ll regret. I’m feeling nervous already and I haven’t even made a commitment yet! Also, if you do have fine curly hair yourself and have some tips for me, I’m all ears…

  1. I say go for the chop! Hair grows, and what if you find it is a look you really love. Can't help with the thin hair thing, my hair is thick as :D

  2. Cute sweater - where did you get it? because I tried on one JUST like it in a Dunedin op shop back when I was in NZ, but didn't end up getting it, because it just wasn't flattering on me.

Good luck with the hair cut, looking forward to seeing pictures! (I really wish I had naturally curly hair so am jealous!)

  3. That little blue top is absolutely adorable. As for the hair cut, I say ask your hair dresser for advice. A good stylist knows what hair will and won't do when cut in a certain way, and she (or he) may be able to tell you if the new cut will work.

  4. Hi there-thats such a pretty jumper, a real find!! My hair is much the same as yours, I'm debating chopping some off, but haven't decided yet-so I can't influence you either way I'm afraid, LOL!

  5. The cut will definitely help the hair curl more easily... I have the same problem with it being more curly around the face than the back, so I asked for a slight A-Line in the back last time. Problem solved!

  6. I have fine hair as wel. As soon as I go at it with curling tongs, the curls drop off after a couple of hours. I think a bob would be super cute on you - but you're right, not too short. I once had this terrible bowl hair cut thanks to my mother and my family called me moonface the entire time! Traumatising! Good luck.

  7. You look too cute darling.
As fr the hair cut I'm suspicious, I'm always for a good cut ;)
Always make me feel great and improved. So I say go for it, even if it just a sligt thing.

  8. You wouldn't believe what my hair looks like in it's natural state! I say go for as short as you want - if you have a good Hairdresser, they will work around your imperfections and make the cut as manageable as possible! Good Luck with it and I can't wait to see the finished result!

  10. Can't help with the fine hair issues, because mine is rather thick and wavy, but I was debating chopping off my shoulder length hair over the summer. I considered going for a Grace Kelly or Marilyn Monroe style. (Seriously, Marilyn Monroe had amazing hair that she never gets any credit for). Sadly though, in the end, I lost my nerve. So, I hereby endow you with all of my short hair dreams. Maybe they'll bring you good fortune in the hair department!

  11. Definitely go for a new 'do. I'll just second everything Miss Karen said, since she stole my thoughts.

  12. I don't know anything at all about what it's like to have thin hair because I have the opposite problem, so not much help there! But I did get it all cut off short recently and don't have to use a hair straightener at all now, it's like all my dreams come true. Therefore, I highly recommend you find a great hairdresser, invest in all the products they tell you (even if only 1 of them actually ends up working) and find some way to embrace what your hair wants to do. Haircuts are so exciting, can't wait to see what you go for!!!

  13. I have very fine straight hair and I never know quite what to do with it! Trying new styles and cuts is always a little nerve wracking, but fun at the same time. Definitely consult with your hair stylist beforehand to ensure you're getting exactly what you want. I'm sure whatever you decide will turn out great! :)

  14. I love that color blue on you! As for the hair, the cut sounds intriguing but it's good to keep your hair texture in mind. I have wavy hair that I'm willing to subdue every day with a flatiron, but not everyone wants to go there!

  16. Cute jumper, it's a lovely colour.

I think new hair dos are exciting, but maybe I'm little biased because I love curly hair (mine being ruler straight, boo) so I think it sounds like a fun idea.
