That 70's T-shirt...

I wish I knew of other fashion bloggers in Dunedin – I’m feeling slightly jealous of those bloggers that live in a big enough city to have more than one fashion blogger (not that I’m saying there is only me here – I just don’t know of any others). I just recently read a post from Lady Melbourne about how her and four other fashion bloggers from Melbourne got together for high tea. They didn’t know each other except for their respective blogs but decided to meet each other and make new friends - how cool is that?

This is just a boring weekend outfit good for lazing about in – the t-shirt reminded me of something a teenager who lived in the 70’s might wear so I teamed it with jeans and my trusty trusty converse.

The Fashion Cycle…

I sometimes get confused with fashion and the different hemispheres – are we inspiring you or are you inspiring us?

The reason I say this is because technically New Zealand is ahead of everyone one else time wise – we are the first to see the new day, the new winter, spring and summer. Yet I find myself longing for the cute little floral skirts and bright colours I’ve been seeing on some of my favourite Northern hemisphere bloggers in their summer passing and I’m now starting to see them longing for the cool winter layers and ruffles that we have been experiencing over here for the past few months.

It makes sense for us to be leading the way with fashion considering we experience everything first yet the florals and bright colours of our northern hemisphere friends are finding their way into our shops and summer looks. Is it just one big fashion cycle? They do obviously exist, everything exists in cycles but who decides what comes next in the cycle?

I Love Market Day…

Because I scored this cute wee dress and it is falling apart a bit and is held up with safety pins at the moment – but who cares? It’s almost like a baby bubble pinafore dress, the photo’s were taken on Saturday which was glorious and almost hot and there were cherry blossom trees to boot – Bring on Spring I say…

It was also a touch windy – as you can tell with these pics…

We hold a market day once a month and there was a lady with a stall who sold the cutest earrings and necklaces with silhouettes of children playing on them – I’m going to get some come next market day!!

Check out the natural curls – I can probably count on my fingers the amount of times I’ve had my natural curls out since I started using a hair dryer when I was 12. I hate having wet hair and if I blow dry my curls they go frizzy and don’t behave!

Adding Some Frills...

A casual take on black and white with frills.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I wear and how I’ve changed my clothing habits over the past year or so. I’ve definitely come out of my clothing ‘shell’ so to speak (with a long way to go yet). This all started at the end of last year when I randomly came across a fashion blogger called Beth and her blog The Vintage Society. She was so inspiring with her amazing mixes of modern with vintage and secondhand clothing and I instantly became an avid reader. I trawled back over her previous posts until I finally got to the end with a sigh of relief and a hell of a lot of inspiration and ideas going on in my head.

At that point I decided I had to get more creative and break out of my some what clothing rut – because even though I always bought a lot of clothes I don’t think they ever had any ‘pop’ factor. From Beth I found out about the flickr group Wardrobe Remix and with that I was ready to try new things.

It took me a while to start my blog up a) because I couldn’t come up with a name for it that I liked (it was the paper doll but it turned out there were too many websites called the paper doll – now its just my blogger pseudonym) and b) because I wasn’t really sure what angle I wanted to take with it. At the moment its more fashion focused but I do want to branch out more into following the construction of making my own clothes (when I get the time) and still with fashion at the forefront I want to mix it up with some foody posts.

And while I admit I have a ways to go with being fashion forward, I have made some great leaps and bounds in these few short months and I’m liking where it’s taking me…

A La Vintage Blazer...

This is what some people (namely David) might call the dream find and I’m inclined to agree. I’ve been wanting a nice blazer for a while now - blazers can make any outfit a bit more dressy and with its navy colour and red stripes it gives it a bit of a difference.

However I do sometimes have issues buying vintage because a) its so very ‘In’ right now and therefore quite expensive (I’m lucky my dream find is vintage and wasn’t expensive at all) b)sometimes the quality isn’t that great (falling apart at the seams) and though some of you may hate me I quite like buying ‘vintage inspired’ pieces brand new from a store. They are cheaper and most of the time not falling apart and though they may only last a season it doesn’t really matter.

In saying that though, it’s nice to have a few interesting pieces spicing up your wardrobe that you can deem vintage. And if you know where to look then finding dream vintage pieces can be easy (not here though with only 1 decent vintage shop that costs a bomb).

Art Week Shinanigans...

Well, Art Week has finally finished and now I’m left with tidy up jobs, a sense of relief and a cold. But alas there is no rest for the wicked - the next couple of events are on our heels along with trying to squeeze in interviews for jobs we have coming up next year.

I’ll do outfit posts throughout the week but here are a few snaps of Sarah and myself at the dress up photo booth we had set up at the student art exhibition. It was all kinds of awesome – a bit Frankie Magazine-esq…
